Weld Food Bank Seeks Volunteers for Saturday Food Drive at County Stores
Weld Food Bank needs 22 additional volunteers for its Hope for the Holidays Food Drive on November 23, as the organization prepares to collect donations at grocery stores across Weld County.
The food drive will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at multiple retail locations throughout the county. Volunteers will assist with collecting food donations from shoppers at participating stores.
Residents interested in volunteering can sign up through the organization's online volunteer portal. The food bank established the volunteer registration system to coordinate coverage across all collection sites during the six-hour drive.
Weld Food Bank has served residents of Weld County since 1982, operating as the only food bank physically located within the county. The organization works to address food insecurity in communities including Greeley, Evans, Windsor, Fort Lupton, Eaton, Severance, Johnstown, Milliken, Hudson, and Keenesburg, according to nonprofit filings.
The Hope for the Holidays Food Drive represents one of the organization's largest annual initiatives, designed to address increased food needs during the winter months. The food bank typically serves thousands of county residents during the holiday season, distributing hundreds of thousands of pounds of food through its network of partner agencies and direct service programs.
Recent weeks have seen increased attention to food security across Northern Colorado. UCHealth awarded $270,000 in grants to regional nonprofits addressing food insecurity on November 13, while Food Bank for Larimer County expanded mobile distribution to Poudre High School the same day.
The organization operates as a member of Feeding America, the nation's largest hunger-relief network, and maintains 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Its mission centers on leading and engaging the community in addressing hunger throughout Weld County.
Holiday food drives rely heavily on volunteer participation, with volunteers handling collection, sorting, boxing, and delivery of donated items at major grocery stores and community sites across the county.
