Weld County Seeks Outside-Greeley Volunteer for Island Grove Board
Weld County is seeking a non-Greeley resident to join the Island Grove Park Advisory Board. Applications close Feb. 17. The volunteer helps shape how the 145-acre park—home to the Stampede, Blues Jam, and county fair—is managed and developed.
"This volunteer opportunity allows members to help oversee the promotion, management, maintenance, and operation of Island Grove Park facilities, while making policy recommendations to the City of Greeley and Weld County on park use and long-range development planning," according to Weld County's Feb. 4 announcement.
The board meets at 4 p.m. on the first Thursday of February, April, June, August, October, and December at the Island Grove Park Events Center. Regular attendance is required.
The residency requirement ensures the board reflects the broader county's needs. Island Grove is the main event venue for Greeley and Weld County, hosting the Stampede, Blues Jam, county fair, rodeos, concerts, livestock shows, and 4-H/FFA activities.
The county fair attracts about 1,000 visitors each day during fair week, according to sponsorship materials. The junior livestock sale gives youth a chance to earn money for college or prepare for careers in production agriculture, according to Weld County.
The county welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. Interested residents can apply at www.weld.gov/go/boardopenings. Weld County is also recruiting for the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Board, Board of Public Health, and Workforce Development Board.
Island Grove's advisory board meeting schedule is available through Greeley's online government portal.
