On Feb. 13, 2025, Fort Collins hosts its 19th Annual Winter Bike to Work Day, drawing about 2,000 residents who will collectively avoid an estimated 6.7 metric tons of carbon pollution.

The event serves as a winter test of Fort Collins' climate and transportation goals, showing how daily commutes can shift from cars to active travel.

"Winter Bike to Work Day is a wonderful way to embrace the spirit of Fort Collins in the colder months," City of Fort Collins Active Modes Specialist AnnMarie Kirkpatrick said. "It's all about celebrating our active transportation community while enjoying the unique charm of winter biking."

Breakfast stations will run 7–9:30 a.m., afternoon stations 3:30–5:30 p.m., offering warm drinks, treats, and giveaways at locations across Fort Collins. The city will post a station map at fortcollins.gov/BTWD prior to the event.

The city set an ambitious 2014 Bicycle Master Plan target: boost bicycle commute mode share—the percentage of trips made by bike—from 7.4% to 20% by 2020. Winter Bike to Work Day reinforces that goal and tests whether year-round biking gains traction in Fort Collins.

The 6.7 metric tons of pollution avoided in one day is roughly equivalent to the annual electricity use of one to two single-family homes, according to the City of Fort Collins.
