Deputy Shot at During High-Speed Pursuit; Six Arrested
A suspected impaired driver fleeing a traffic stop at Harmony and Ziegler in Fort Collins fired at a Larimer County deputy during a high-speed pursuit early Saturday morning, striking the deputy's vehicle before six suspects were arrested near Interstate 25, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., deputies attempted to stop the suspected impaired driver at Harmony and Ziegler in Fort Collins. The driver refused to stop and fled eastbound into Weld County. A shot was fired at the pursuing deputy, striking his vehicle, but no one was injured.
The vehicle stopped on Highway 392 west of I-25. All six occupants fled, but deputies used drone technology to locate and arrest them.
An Everbridge alert warned nearby residents to shelter in place during the search. The alert has since been lifted.
"We are thankful no one was injured—deputy or members of the public alike—despite the suspects' reckless actions," said Larimer County Sheriff John Feyen. "This is an example of the professionalism and dedication of our deputies and area partners who work to keep the community safe and produced the best possible outcome."
