King Soopers Shoppers Can Round Up at Register to Support Food Bank for Larimer County
Shoppers at King Soopers locations across Northern Colorado can round up their purchases at checkout to support the Food Bank for Larimer County through December 7 as part of the 9Cares Colorado Shares fundraising campaign.
The round-up initiative allows customers to donate spare change by rounding their total purchase to the nearest dollar, with all proceeds benefiting local hunger-relief efforts. The campaign is a partnership between 9NEWS, King Soopers, and participating food banks across Colorado.
Donations can also be made online through the campaign's website.
The fundraising effort comes as the Food Bank for Larimer County continues to serve more than 50,000 individuals annually across Fort Collins, Loveland, Berthoud, Wellington, and other communities throughout the county. The organization recently held a mobile market distribution in west Fort Collins on November 9, offering free groceries to residents in need.
Founded in 1984, the Food Bank for Larimer County has grown from distributing 3,800 pounds of food in its first month to now providing nearly 10 million pounds of food annually, according to the organization's records. In 2024, the food bank rescued and distributed over 9.4 million pounds of food, equivalent to 10.2 million meals, with 42 percent consisting of fresh produce.
The organization operates through a network of two no-cost grocery store-style markets in Fort Collins and Loveland, three mobile markets across the county, and partnerships with more than 100 agency partners including pantries, shelters, and clinics.
Register round-up campaigns have become an increasingly common fundraising mechanism for nonprofit organizations, with industry participation rates typically ranging from 15 to 35 percent of shoppers opting to donate during campaign periods. The 9Cares Colorado Shares campaign brings additional visibility through media promotion by 9NEWS, the principal broadcast partner for the initiative.
The Food Bank for Larimer County is the only Feeding America-accredited clearinghouse for donated food in Larimer County and is a member of Feeding Colorado, a statewide network of five food banks working to address hunger across the region.
The campaign runs through December 7 at participating King Soopers locations throughout Northern Colorado.
