Timnath advances updated flood maps; hearing set for Oct. 27

From the Timnath Town Council meeting of

The measure would replace the town’s 2013 flood study and maps in its regulations with updated versions scheduled to take effect Nov. 27. It would take effect upon adoption at second reading.

The Timnath Town Council approved on first reading an ordinance that would adopt updated Larimer County flood maps and a Flood Insurance Study. The council set a public hearing and second reading for 6 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Timnath Administration Building, 4750 Signal Tree Drive.

Timnath’s floodplain regulations still reference the Feb. 6, 2013, study and maps. The proposed amendment would replace that date with Nov. 27, when the updated maps and study are scheduled to take effect. The ordinance would take effect upon adoption at second reading.

The staff report says timely adoption is needed to keep Timnath eligible and in good standing in the National Flood Insurance Program and maintain federally backed flood insurance for eligible property owners. FEMA “requires the map” and has told Timnath to adopt the updated maps and study, a staff member said. The report says the updated maps would let the town apply current flood-hazard information when reviewing development.
