Weld County authorizes grant application to replace 1930 bridge

From the Weld County Board of County Commissioners meeting of

The application is due by the end of October, and grant results are expected in January. If approved, the funding would go toward replacing the aging structure.

Weld County commissioners authorized the Public Works Department on Oct. 5 to apply for a Colorado Counties Inc. grant to replace Bridge 76.5/21A, built in 1930.

A Public Works staff member said the county could receive up to $3,905,600 if approved. The application is due by the end of October. A Public Works staff member said results are expected sometime in January.

The staff member believes the bridge is the oldest in Public Works’ inventory. Seeing it demolished would be sad, but a collapse while someone drove over it would be sadder, the staff member said. “I know, can we get 100 out of it?” Commissioner Jason Maxey said, noting the bridge was close to 100 years old.
