Timnath Town Council on June 23: parkway connection contract approved as property actions advance

The Timnath Town Council’s June 23 meeting centered on infrastructure and town property decisions, with the most significant action being approval of a major construction contract for the Timnath Parkway North Connection. Alongside that vote, council members approved consent items tied to former Timnath Development Authority land, authorized the sale of the old fire station on Main Street and heard residents press for changes to streetlights and safer crossings.

Council unanimously approved a $4.14 million contract for the Timnath Parkway North Connection project, which will extend Timnath Parkway west from Buss Grove Road to Main Street and add a new roadway link and multimodal connection to Old Town Timnath.

The council also approved its consent agenda, including the transfer of three former Timnath Development Authority properties to the town as the authority moves toward winding down, with the town taking ongoing ownership and maintenance of the parcels. Separately, council authorized the sale of the old fire station at 4104 Main Street for $450,000, allowing the mayor or mayor pro tem to execute the agreement.

During public comment, residents urged council to address streetlight glare and pedestrian safety concerns along Timnath Parkway, calling for revisions to lighting standards, removal of sag lenses from existing fixtures and improvements at crossings where drivers have repeatedly failed to stop.
