Fort Collins Transportation Fair Previews 20+ Projects, Including Major Bus Network Overhaul
Fort Collins residents can learn about more than 20 transportation projects—including bike infrastructure and a major bus network redesign—at a free fair Friday, Feb. 6, 6–9 p.m., at the Center for Creativity, 200 Mathews St. City staff and regional partners, including Colorado State University and the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization, will be on hand to answer questions.
Residents who can't attend Friday evening can view exhibits Feb. 4–8, noon–6 p.m., at the same location. Refreshments will be served, and a Spanish interpreter will be available.
The fair coincides with Fort Collins' implementation of the Transfort Optimization Plan, a budget-constrained bus network redesign launching in Jan. 2027. City Council supported the recommended scenario in October 2025, with planning underway in 2026.
"This event brings City projects and people together in a way we don't usually see," City of Fort Collins Active Modes Specialist Lauren Nagle said. "Community members can talk one-on-one with project managers, ask questions, and learn about topics ranging from bike infrastructure to street repairs and the Transfort Optimization Plan."
The plan simplifies routes into a grid-like system, concentrating frequent service on core corridors and high-demand neighborhoods. Service in lower-demand areas will be reduced.
The budget trade-offs are significant: restoring full pre-pandemic transit service would cost about $3 million annually, while fully implementing the 2040 Transit Master Plan would require roughly $15 million yearly. The recommended network prioritizes frequency and reliability on main corridors within available budget.
