Mountain Sage Community School will open its middle school classrooms to prospective families on December 2 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. for a hands-on exploration of its Waldorf-inspired educational program.

The event offers families an opportunity to meet middle school staff, tour classrooms, and learn about the school's distinctive approach to grades six through eight. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at 5:30 p.m. and stay for the full event.

Mountain Sage operates as a tuition-free public charter school serving kindergarten through eighth grade at 2310 E Prospect Road in Fort Collins, according to Colorado Department of Education records. The school opened in 2013 and currently enrolls approximately 285 to 330 students.

The middle school program distinguishes itself from traditional public schools in Larimer and Weld Counties through its integration of arts, practical skills, and nature-based learning into core academics. Students receive regular instruction in handwork, visual arts, music, Spanish language, gardening, and sustainability alongside standard subjects.

According to the school's official materials, curriculum is structured around interdisciplinary, project-based units that blend sciences, humanities, mathematics, and creative arts. The program emphasizes child development stages and whole-child education rather than standardized test preparation.

Mountain Sage is the only school in Northern Colorado offering a Waldorf-inspired educational model within a public charter setting, as documented by the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education. The pedagogical approach centers on connecting cognitive, emotional, and physical development through experiential learning.

Social-emotional learning and restorative practices form a core component of the middle school program, with dedicated staff supporting peer relationships and conflict resolution through community-building methods.

Mountain Sage previously hosted its annual Lantern Walk Festival on November 7, featuring evening processions and community gatherings.

Families interested in attending the December 2 middle school experience event can find additional information on the school's website at mountainsage.org.
