Fort Collins' Lyric Cinema will screen the 1976 political thriller "All the President's Men" for one night only on November 13, offering Northern Colorado residents a chance to revisit one of American cinema's most influential examinations of investigative journalism.

The film dramatizes the Washington Post reporting that exposed the Watergate scandal, following journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein as they investigated the 1972 burglary at Democratic Party headquarters. The investigation ultimately led to President Richard Nixon's resignation.

According to the National Film Registry, the film was selected for preservation as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Released just two years after Nixon's resignation, the movie quickly became a touchstone for journalistic integrity and the value of a free press in American democracy.

The screening continues The Lyric's tradition of presenting classic films that spark civic conversation. The locally owned theater at 1209 N. College Ave. frequently curates programming designed to foster community engagement around cultural and historical themes.

The film's exploration of government accountability and press freedom remains relevant amid contemporary debates over media trust and transparency. The story depicts the meticulous investigative work required to hold powerful political figures accountable, even when facing institutional obstacles and personal risk.

"All the President's Men" stars Robert Redford as Woodward and Dustin Hoffman as Bernstein, with Hal Holbrook portraying the mysterious source known as Deep Throat. The film chronicles how the reporters connected the burglars to White House staff and followed the money trail despite warnings about their safety.

Tickets for the November 13 screening are available online at lyriccinema.com or at the theater's concessions counter. The event is part of The Lyric's ongoing special programming that includes documentaries, classic films, and community storytelling events.

The Lyric Cinema has operated as an independent, locally owned theater since 2007 under owner Ben Mozer. The venue moved to its current location in 2017, expanding to include three indoor theaters, an outdoor screen, a full bar, and restaurant service.
