Fort Collins Cinema to Screen Documentary Chronicling 16-Year Journey Through the Americas
The Lyric Cinema will present a one-night screening of "The Road to Patagonia," an environmental documentary filmed over 16 years, on November 14.
The film follows Australian ecologist and filmmaker Matty Hannon on a solo motorcycle journey from Alaska to the tip of Patagonia along the west coast of the Americas. The documentary chronicles Hannon's encounters with wilderness, wildlife, and indigenous communities while exploring themes of ecological conservation and human connection to nature.
According to festival programs and critical reviews, the film's production spanned more than a decade and a half, capturing Hannon's personal transformation and his relationship with Heather, a permaculture farmer he met during the journey.
The Lyric Cinema, located at 1209 North College Avenue, operates as Northern Colorado's hub for independent films and documentaries. The venue recently expanded accessibility services with daily open caption matinées starting in October.
The documentary addresses environmental issues including climate change, ecosystem preservation, and traditional ecological knowledge. Film materials describe the work as examining humanity's relationship with the natural world through both physical adventure and spiritual reflection.
"The Road to Patagonia" has received selections at multiple international film festivals focused on environmental and documentary programming. The film represents part of The Lyric's ongoing programming of independent cinema and documentaries addressing contemporary social and environmental issues.
The cinema has hosted similar events throughout 2025, including the ACT Human Rights Film Festival, which brings international documentaries and filmmakers to Fort Collins for screenings and community discussions.
Tickets for the November 14 screening are available online at lyriccinema.com or at the theater's concessions counter. The Lyric Cinema has operated in Fort Collins since 2007, providing screening space for independent films alongside community events and live performances.
