Fort Collins Museum of Discovery Hosts Street Art Panel November 6
The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery hosts an evening event November 6 featuring muralists from the Fort Collins Mural Project in a panel discussion about street art creation and community impact.
The event runs from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the museum and serves as the finale to The Symposium, a multidisciplinary event series exploring art, culture, and community engagement in Northern Colorado. The program brings outdoor murals indoors for close examination and includes light refreshments.
Attendees will hear directly from artists who created murals throughout Fort Collins about their creative processes, the stories behind their works, and the technical aspects of translating concepts into large-scale public art. The panel offers residents a chance to understand how street art projects develop from initial ideas through completion.
The Fort Collins Mural Project, established in 2021 as a local nonprofit, has completed over 30 murals citywide, according to the organization's website. The project operates independently but collaborates with the City of Fort Collins Art in Public Places program, Colorado State University, and local museums to expand public art opportunities focused on social impact themes.
The organization's stated mission emphasizes creating "accessible, inclusive, and community-driven public art that inspires conversation, connection, and pride" in Fort Collins, according to Fort Collins Mural Project materials. Recent projects have addressed mental health awareness in partnership with the Alliance for Suicide Prevention of Larimer County.
The Symposium event series represents a collaborative effort between the Museum of Discovery, Colorado State University, and local arts organizations. According to the Museum of Discovery, the partnership aims to engage visitors in learning about world cultures, art, and history while building community connections.
The finale event synthesizes themes explored throughout the fall series, which included sessions on community wellness through art, public storytelling, and environmental resilience. This year's programming highlighted the role of creative practice in shaping regional identity and fostering public dialogue.
The Fort Collins Mural Project operates through a mix of city grants, private sponsorship, and community contributions. The organization runs annual mural cycles featuring rotating rosters of local and regional artists, with eight artists participating in the 2025 cycle.
The event is open to the public. Additional information is available through the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery.
