Fort Collins Theater Company Adds Second Performance Date for Drinking-Themed "Wizard of Oz" Show
Acting Tipsy Theatre Co. has added a second performance date for its interactive production "The Wasted Wizard of Oz" at The Lyric in Fort Collins due to ticket demand.
The Northern Colorado-based theater company will now present shows on November 21 and November 28. The production features a unique twist on the classic story: one actor's name is randomly drawn the day of each performance to portray Dorothy while consuming alcohol throughout the show.
Minutes before curtain, an audience member will be selected to play Toto and participate in drinking challenges during musical numbers. The remaining cast performs sober while attempting to keep the production on track.
"No two nights are ever the same," according to the theater company's announcement. The format represents a growing trend in "drunk theatre" that combines classic stories with audience participation and onstage alcohol consumption.
Acting Tipsy Theatre Co. specializes in drinking-based theatrical performances and operates within the Northern Colorado region. The company focuses on small-batch, event-based productions rather than traditional season schedules.
Colorado liquor laws require venues hosting alcohol-related entertainment to maintain specific licensing and insurance coverage. The Colorado Department of Revenue's Liquor Enforcement Division regulates alcohol consumption by performers on licensed premises, requiring compliance with the venue's liquor license type.
The Lyric, an active entertainment venue in Fort Collins, must carry liquor liability insurance and general liability coverage to host such events. Venues are required to follow Responsible Vendor Program training, enforce age verification, and limit service to intoxicated individuals.
Tickets for both November performances are available through the theater company's event page.
