Fort Collins Rescue Mission Secures Temporary Power Following August Fire
The Fort Collins Rescue Mission at 316 Jefferson Street has obtained an electrical permit for a temporary power pedestal as the facility continues recovery efforts following a fire in August, according to city building permit records.
Daniels Electric of Wellington filed the commercial electrical permit for the installation, which will provide temporary electrical service to the property without upgrading the permanent service infrastructure. Trevor Daniels serves as the licensed professional on the project.
The emergency shelter operated by Denver Rescue Mission experienced a fire on August 23, rendering the facility unavailable for full service operations. The organization has continued providing limited overnight shelter options while assessing repair and reopening plans.
Denver Rescue Mission acquired the property in November 2012, taking over operations from the former Open Door Mission. The facility provides emergency overnight shelter for men and basic support services, with individuals seeking longer-term rehabilitation referred to the organization's Harvest Farm location in Wellington.
The 5,240-square-foot building was constructed in 1949 and has served as a social services facility for decades. The structure sits at the intersection of Jefferson and Linden Streets in Old Town Fort Collins, operating as a standalone property rather than part of a larger commercial development.
The Mission serves as a central component of Fort Collins' homelessness response system, partnering with city and county agencies to address seasonal overflow shelter needs. The Murphy Center, another major service hub for unhoused individuals, operates nearby at 242 Conifer Street.
Denver Rescue Mission, a Christian nonprofit founded in 1892, operates multiple facilities across the Denver metro area and Northern Colorado. The organization's services include meals, emergency shelter, case management and long-term rehabilitation programs designed to help individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty regain self-sufficiency.
The temporary power installation represents infrastructure work necessary while the facility undergoes assessment and potential repairs following the August fire. No timeline has been announced for the completion of permanent facility restoration or full service resumption.
