Fort Collins City Offices to Close November 11 for Veterans Day
Fort Collins administrative offices will close November 11 in observance of Veterans Day, while recreation facilities and essential services continue normal operations.
The Gardens on Spring Creek, the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery and all city recreation facilities will remain open November 11. Transfort will maintain regular service, though all Transfort offices will be closed for the holiday.
Police, fire and utility departments will operate without interruption throughout the federal holiday. All administrative offices will reopen with standard schedules November 12.
The city will host a Veterans Day Breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. on November 11 at the Fort Collins Senior Center, located at 1200 Raintree Drive.
Holiday Observance Follows Federal and State Guidelines
Veterans Day originated as Armistice Day in 1919 to commemorate the end of World War I, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Congress renamed the holiday Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all American veterans following World War II and the Korean War.
Federal offices close for Veterans Day, but federal law does not mandate municipal closures. Colorado state offices observe the federal holiday, and most Northern Colorado municipalities follow similar practices for administrative functions while maintaining critical services.
Fort Collins municipal policy requires continuous operation of essential services including police, fire, utilities and transportation regardless of holiday schedules. The approach balances employee observance of the federal holiday with public safety and infrastructure needs.
Larimer County Municipalities Follow Similar Protocols
Loveland, Windsor and Larimer County will close administrative offices November 11 while maintaining emergency services and public safety departments at full staffing levels.
Greeley announced November 3 that administrative buildings will close for Veterans Day, with police and fire departments maintaining regular operations. Greeley recreation facilities including the Family FunPlex and Greeley Recreation Center will operate with standard hours, and Greeley-Evans Transit will run regular weekday schedules.
Recreation facilities across Fort Collins typically remain open on federal holidays due to increased public visitation and their role as revenue-generating community amenities, according to city planning documents. The Gardens on Spring Creek and Museum of Discovery serve educational and cultural functions that benefit from holiday access.
