A Lyons family has bought back its plant-based skincare company three years after selling it to an Australian firm, restoring local ownership to a business that employs around 30 people in the Boulder County foothills community.

Green Goo by Spry Life announced October 27 that founders Jodi Scott, Jennifer Scott and Kathy Scott have reacquired the Green Goo brand and relaunched operations under their original family leadership. The company manufactures herbal salves and natural body care products from facilities in Lyons.

The Scott family sold Green Goo to Creso Pharma of Australia in early 2022 to fund global expansion plans. The new ownership encountered legal and financial difficulties that threatened the brand's survival, according to company statements.

"I had less than 24 hours to terminate my entire legacy team, including my mom and sister," said Jodi Scott, CEO and co-founder. "It was one of the hardest days of my life."

The family completed the buyback process in recent months and has returned to original formulas and manufacturing processes developed when the company launched in 2008.

Manufacturing Returns to Small-Batch Production

Green Goo produces healing salves, pain relief products and skincare items using plant-based ingredients through a proprietary lipid-infusion process. The company infuses herbs including calendula and chamomile into oils, creating the base for products sold in tins and tubes.

Operations span two office spaces, a warehouse and a farm in Lyons, according to the company. Production has returned to small-batch manufacturing methods the founders used before the 2022 sale.

The relaunch includes the company's Skin Repair, Pain Relief, Dry Skin and First Aid product lines. Green Goo maintains B Corporation certification for social and environmental performance standards.

Distribution Spans National Retailers

Before the ownership change, Green Goo products reached approximately 90,000 distribution points including Walmart, CVS, Safeway, Target and Whole Foods, according to company records. Current retail partnerships were not disclosed in the announcement.

The company previously gained recognition through placement in Oscar gift bags in 2015 and participation in outdoor industry trade shows.

Jodi Scott, who holds a master's degree in health psychology, co-founded the business with her sister Jennifer Scott, a trained herbalist and former midwife, and their mother Kathy Scott, who handles graphic design and web development.

"We started Green Goo with the belief that plants can heal, protect and restore better than anything made in a lab," Jodi Scott said. "Buying Green Goo back was our way of protecting not just our products, but our purpose."

Holiday Sales Launch

Green Goo is marketing holiday gift bundles and travel-sized product tins as the company resumes direct consumer sales. Products are available through the company website at greengoo.com.

The buyback positions Green Goo among Northern Colorado's women-led natural products businesses. The region's entrepreneurial ecosystem has expanded through programs including startup accelerators in Fort Collins and Greeley's agriculture-focused business development initiatives supporting early-stage companies in specialized industries.

The company sources ingredients through local partnerships and fair trade suppliers. Green Goo emphasizes environmental stewardship and transparency in manufacturing practices as part of its market positioning.
