Trader Joe's Expanding Fort Collins Store by Nearly 3,500 Square Feet
Trader Joe's is expanding its Fort Collins location at 3500 S College Ave, Suite 110, according to a commercial building permit filed with the city.
The renovation will increase the grocery store's footprint from 12,107 square feet to 15,608 square feet, representing a nearly 29% expansion of the existing space. The project includes interior renovation work along with associated electrical, framing, mechanical, plumbing and roofing improvements.
BSM Construction, Inc. of Concord, California is serving as the general contractor for the project. The permit was filed by Danielle Candidus of Permit Advisors.
The expansion comes a decade after the store first opened to Fort Collins customers in early 2015. According to Trader Joe's store locator, the South College Avenue location serves as the only Trader Joe's in Larimer and Weld counties.
The grocery store is situated in The Square Plaza shopping center along the South College Avenue corridor, one of Fort Collins' primary commercial arteries connecting Colorado State University, the city center and rapidly growing southern neighborhoods. The corridor features a concentration of national retailers, restaurants and service businesses.
Trader Joe's operates over 500 stores nationwide, focusing on neighborhood environments and curated private-label grocery products. The California-based chain was founded in 1967 and has been privately owned by the Albrecht family, which also owns Aldi, since 1979.
Along Colorado's Front Range, Trader Joe's operates locations in Boulder, multiple Denver-area stores including downtown and Colorado Boulevard, as well as stores in Greenwood Village, Littleton, Westminster and Colorado Springs, according to the company's official store locator.
The Fort Collins expansion represents the company's continued investment in its Northern Colorado presence in a market characterized by residential growth and high customer traffic.
