Greeley's 10th Street is expected to reopen Sunday ahead of the holiday shopping season, the city said.
The city worked closely with Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction to bring in more crews and work weekends. The extra crews and weekend work were intended to reopen 10th Street as quickly and safely as possible, the city said. It described the reopening as one of several major steps forward for the Downtown Infrastructure Improvements Project.
North 11th Avenue will be closed at the railroad crossing just north of Second Street from Nov. 10 to 13 while crews replace the crossing. Posted detours will guide drivers around the work area.
The intersection of 10th Street and 9th Avenue will close at times over the next several weeks. The block of 9th Avenue between 10th and 11th Streets will close in December as crews begin installing a large underground stormwater drain.
Crews continue to install new water and sewer pipes and improve drainage throughout downtown. They will also continue pouring concrete for a large underground stormwater drain at 9th Avenue and 12th Street.
"Our downtown businesses are a big part of what makes Greeley special, and we want to see them thrive this holiday season," said Adam Prior, deputy director and chief utilities engineer for the City of Greeley.
Travelers should allow extra time, follow all traffic signs and watch for crews. Construction dates are tentative and may change based on construction and weather conditions.
