Third Street closes Nov. 9 between Spruce and Birch for culvert replacement
Through traffic will be barred, though residents can reach homes. Student pickup and drop-off move to Juniper Avenue, 1st Street or the school’s north and south lots; sidewalks near the work zone will close.
3rd Street between Spruce Avenue and Birch Avenue is scheduled to close Monday, Nov. 9, for replacement of a failing culvert beneath the road, and is to reopen at the end of the month.
Drivers should follow detour signs using Spruce Avenue, Fifth Street and Birch Avenue. Access to homes in the area will remain open, but through traffic will not be permitted.
During construction, Eaton Elementary School students should be picked up and dropped off on Juniper Avenue, 1st Street, or in the school's north and south parking lots. Parent and caregiver pickup and drop-off will not be permitted on 3rd Street, which will be reserved for school buses.
Parking is not allowed at any time on either side of 3rd Street east of Juniper Avenue, an area reserved for school bus pickup and drop-off only.
The existing arched metal pipe carries the Boyd lateral irrigation ditch beneath 3rd Street and is worn out. Crews will remove it and replace it with a new concrete box culvert.
Crews will also fix the sagging curb and gutter where water now pools and rebuild nearby sidewalks. The sidewalk work is intended to improve safety.
Sidewalks near the work zone will be closed, and signs will guide people walking and biking around the site.
Crews will work Monday through Friday during daylight hours. Equipment will be moved off the road and open trenches will be covered each night.
After the road reopens, crews will remain in the area through early December to reinstall fencing, restore landscaping and finish project cleanup.
