The Coachella Valley Firebirds broke a tie with a late third-period goal and beat the Colorado Eagles 2-1 on Wednesday at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, CA. John Hayden scored after the teams had gone nearly two periods without a goal, leaving Colorado little time to answer.

The Eagles carried their 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but Eduard Šalé answered at 1:18 of the second to tie it 1-1. Nikke Kokko made 27 saves on 28 shots for the Firebirds, with Brindley’s goal the only one he allowed. In the third, a slashing penalty on Taylor Makar gave Coachella Valley a power play, but the score remained tied. The Eagles had also gone without a goal on their power play in the first period.
The tie held until Hayden scored at 19:51 of the third, with Ryden Evers assisting. Coachella Valley took its first lead of the game at 2-1. Trent Miner made 26 saves on 28 shots for Colorado. The Eagles host the Calgary Wranglers on Friday, Nov. 6.
