District proclaims Native American Heritage Month

From the Poudre School District Board of Education meeting of

Poudre School District proclaimed November 2026 Native American Heritage Month, encouraging students, staff and the community to celebrate Native American contributions past and present. The resolution identifies the school community’s traditional and ancestral homelands as those of the Hinono’ei (Arapaho), Tsitsistas (Cheyenne) and Nuuchiu (Ute) Nations and peoples. The resolution says the district received Title VI funding for the first time to support American Indian and Alaska Native students’ academic success, cultural identity and educational experiences through programming, resources and community engagement. It says the district is committed to closing opportunity gaps, using culturally responsive teaching practices, and ensuring Native American students, families and staff are valued, seen, heard and welcomed. President Jessica Zamora said a student’s remarks about an unkind history and the call to do better were powerful and fitting for Heritage Month.

Motion carried, 6-0.
