Coal Creek Trail near Lafayette closure extended through Dec. 7
Trail users can take the designated detour east of the groomed path, but part is ungroomed and uneven; bicyclists, scooter users and others on wheels should dismount there.
A section of the Coal Creek Trail in Lafayette near the Lafayette Water Reclamation Facility, closed since Sept. 8 for construction, is now expected to stay closed through Monday, Dec. 7, 2026.
Trail users may follow the designated detour east of the groomed trail. Part of the detour is ungroomed and has an uneven surface, so bicyclists, scooter users and others using wheeled devices should dismount through that section. Trail users are asked to stay out of the closed trail and active construction areas for their safety and the safety of construction crews.
The project includes floodplain improvements and construction of a retaining wall intended to help reduce flood risk. The original Sept. 8 notice anticipated the project would last eight weeks.
The section of trail was temporarily closed beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, for construction and excavation near the Lafayette Water Reclamation Facility.
