Berthoud CR 1 and Highway 56 roundabout: when they may open

Berthoud says current schedules point to completion and opening before the end of 2026, despite missed development deadlines.

County Road 1 between Highway 56 and East County Road 6C closed in late January 2025 for utility work at Berthoud’s Farmstead development.

Here’s the opening forecast, what’s being built and why work has been delayed.

When did Berthoud expect County Road 1 and the Highway 56 roundabout to open?

Berthoud’s Sept. 16 update said current schedules and work progress indicated the roundabout and County Road 1 would be completed and open before the end of 2026.

What improvements are being built near County Road 1 and Highway 56?

Berthoud entered into a development agreement with LGI Homes for Farmstead subdivision, Phase II, and associated public infrastructure. The agreement requires LGI to build major utilities, street and intersection improvements along Highway 56 and County Line Rd, among other things.

Why has the work been delayed?

In an Oct. 1, 2025 update, Berthoud attributed the expected continuation of utility and roadway construction at Farmstead into 2026 to unforeseen challenges. Berthoud also said LGI had not delivered the improvements within the agreed-upon timelines and was in default of the development agreement.

What is Berthoud doing about the missed deadlines?

Berthoud said it had taken the enforcement steps immediately available to it and was considering additional legal remedies to ensure the infrastructure is constructed.
