Greeley police apprehended Byron Roth, 33, in Greeley after a multi-agency operation.
After receiving an anonymous tip, Greeley Police Department Special Enforcement Team officers began surveillance Tuesday, Oct. 27, at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of 23rd Avenue. They saw 35-year-old Amanda Loos, an associate, leave the residence; she was taken into custody on outstanding arrest warrants during a traffic stop, Greeley police said. Follow-up investigation confirmed Roth was hiding inside the apartment, Greeley police said.
Special Enforcement Team officers, with help from Greeley Police detectives, police dog units, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office STRIKE and the Colorado State Patrol, surrounded the location. After officers began search warrant procedures and made verbal announcements, Roth surrendered peacefully without further incident. He was booked into the Weld County Jail on outstanding charges of aggravated robbery, charges stemming from his escape and a controlled substance warrant, Greeley police said. The department said all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
At approximately 10 a.m. Oct. 16, Roth escaped custody while being transported to Weld County on felony robbery charges, Greeley police said. He escaped from an Advantage Treatment Facility transport vehicle on Interstate 76 after convincing the driver he had fallen ill, Greeley police said. Roth was unrestrained at the time and fled on foot toward Fort Morgan, Greeley police said. His escape prompted an active search by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation remains ongoing. Greeley police ask anyone with information about the case to contact Officer Kevin Douglas at [email protected].
