Charlotte Checkers beat Colorado Eagles 6-3 as Gracyn Sawchyn puts them ahead for good

Colorado scored in the opening minute, but Charlotte answered short-handed and pulled away in the third. Jack Devine scored twice, including into an empty net, before Matt DiMarsico answered for the Eagles.

The Charlotte Checkers scored three straight goals after a second-period tie and beat the Colorado Eagles 6-3 on Tuesday at Blue Federal Credit Union Arena in Loveland. Colorado led early, but Charlotte carried a one-goal advantage into the third and added two more before the Eagles could answer.

Adam Beckman gave Colorado a 1-0 lead at 0:54 of the first period, and Will Bitten tied it for Charlotte with a short-handed goal. Jack Devine put the Checkers ahead on a power play in the second, only for Christian Wolanin to answer with a power-play goal that made it 2-2. At 19:45 of the second, Sawchyn scored unassisted to give Charlotte a 3-2 lead heading into the third.

Charlotte pulled away from there. Robert Mastrosimone scored early in the third, and Devine put his second goal into an empty net at 16:49 of the period to make it 5-2. Those goals extended the run that began with Sawchyn’s go-ahead goal; Colorado had not scored since Wolanin tied the game.

The Eagles answered when Matt DiMarsico scored shortly after Devine, cutting Charlotte’s lead to 5-3. Nate Smith restored the three-goal margin with a power-play goal into an empty net. Tyler Muszelik finished with 22 saves on 25 shots for Charlotte. The Eagles host the Checkers on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
