A man was shot in Wellington during an encounter with Larimer County sheriff’s deputies on Oct. 25, according to a Facebook post by the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.
The Eighth Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was activated and responded to take over the officer-involved shooting investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said. Just before 2:30 p.m. Oct. 25, deputies attempted to contact a man wanted for multiple felony warrants. He was in a home in the 8200 block of 4th Street in Wellington. Deputies instructed him to exit, but he refused to follow commands.
Around 7 p.m., the man emerged from the home and ran from law enforcement; deputies followed him on foot and encountered him in a nearby yard, the Sheriff’s Office said. Shots were fired, and he was struck. Deputies immediately rendered first aid. Medical crews staged nearby and transported him to an area hospital for care.
No other injuries had been reported, and there was no ongoing threat to the community, the Sheriff’s Office said. The Larimer Regional All Hazards/Crisis Response (AHCR) team also responded to assist. The suspect’s name and charges will be released at a later time. Loveland Police Department will release any further information.
