Greeley utility rates: what the 2026 increase covers
The roughly $10.23 monthly increase averages $3.20 for water, $2 for sewer and $5.03 for stormwater; eligible residents can apply for a $100-per-person annual rebate and a one-time $150 water-bill credit.
Greeley scheduled an increase of about $10.23 in monthly water, sewer and stormwater bills beginning Jan. 1, 2026.
Here’s how the increase breaks down, why the city says it is needed, how bills are calculated and what help is available.
How much was the average monthly increase for each service?
Greeley listed average monthly rate increases of $3.20 for water, $2.00 for sewer and $5.03 for stormwater.
Why did Greeley increase its water, sewer and stormwater rates?
The city said the 2026 rate change would help provide essential services and protect the community from severe weather. It said the stormwater increase would help maintain current operations and pay for infrastructure upgrades intended to improve drainage and reduce flood risks. Greeley says every dollar collected helps pay for infrastructure, maintenance and economic growth.
Major storms in May 2024 caused $3.4 million in damage to homes, businesses and public facilities and led to a disaster declaration. A severe storm in July 2025 overwhelmed drainage systems at busy intersections.
How does Greeley calculate monthly water and wastewater bills?
Greeley’s Water & Sewer Department uses fixed service charges and consumption charges for every 1,000 gallons of water used or sewage treated. It bills customers monthly.
For single-family residential accounts, water-budget rate tiers are based on efficient water use for the lot size and number of people in the household. If you use no more than your budget, you pay less for each thousand gallons of water used. If you exceed it, you pay more for the extra water.
What utility-bill assistance can eligible Greeley residents apply for?
You can apply for Greeley’s Low Income and Food Tax rebate (LIFT) and Utility Program (UP), which help lower-income families with utility bills. LIFT provides $100 per qualified person each year. Qualified Greeley residents can receive a one-time $150 UP credit toward their water bill; the same income qualifications apply as for the city’s food tax rebate program.
You can apply for both through one application. For questions about the programs, call 970-350-9748 or email [email protected].
