Larimer County declares October Code Compliance Month

From the Larimer County Board of County Commissioners meeting of

Larimer County proclaimed October 2026 Code Compliance Month. The proclamation says county Code Compliance staff promote safety, health and welfare by enforcing building, zoning, floodplain and right-of-way codes; it also notes the program has expanded amid population growth and increased requests, particularly where rural and urban populations meet. The proclamation was adopted Oct. 13, 2026. Everett said the six-person team handles building, land-use, flood and engineering codes while building relationships, educating residents and balancing property rights with neighborhood safety; inspectors de-escalate conflicts and often achieve voluntary compliance. Kefalas said cases generally begin with complaints and follow established processes under a county priority system. Shadduck-McNally said staff address hazards such as accumulated rubbish and dangerous buildings, connect residents in substandard conditions with resources and stable housing, and visit mobile-home-park residents to offer education and resources.

Motion carried, 3-0.
