Greeley police take driver of vehicle reported stolen into custody

The vehicle had been reported stolen from Commerce City. License-plate alerts and drone tracking helped officers, state troopers and parole officers stop it on Highway 34; police say the driver faces motor vehicle theft charges.

Greeley police took the driver of a vehicle reported stolen from Commerce City into custody on motor vehicle theft charges after locating it Sept. 9.

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, Greeley police used FLOCK Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology to locate the vehicle. The driver, Maria Perez-Vasquez, 44, was taken into custody without incident on motor vehicle theft charges. The Greeley Police Department posted the account on its Facebook page Oct. 20.

The operation followed initial ALPR alerts and real-time drone tracking from the Real Time Information Center. Officers worked with state troopers, parole officers and a department drone unit to execute a Grappler vehicle stop in the 1700 block of Highway 34. The department described the stop as successful and said the incident demonstrated the critical role modern technology and multi-agency cooperation play in keeping the community safe.
