Weld deputy clocks SUV at 103 mph in 65 mph zone
The Sheriff's Office says the deputy stopped the driver on Highway 392 near County Road 71 and developed probable cause to arrest him on suspicion of DUI, excessive alcohol content, reckless driving and speeding 40 mph over the prima facie limit. The charges are accusations.
A Weld County deputy's radar indicated a Honda was traveling 103 mph in a posted 65 mph zone before she developed probable cause to arrest its driver on suspicion of four offenses, the Weld County Sheriff's Office said.
The Sheriff's Office published the release Oct. 19. Just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, a patrol deputy saw a black Honda sport utility vehicle approaching her on the opposite side of the road and estimated its speed at 100 mph. Her radar indicated the Honda was traveling 103 mph in a posted 65 mph zone. The deputy turned around, caught up with the Honda and stopped it on Highway 392 near Weld County Road 71.
The deputy identified the driver as 20-year-old Isaiah Kosam. She suspected Kosam was impaired and conducted a driving-under-the-influence investigation, the Sheriff's Office said. The deputy developed probable cause to arrest him on suspicion of speeding 40 mph over the prima facie limit, driving under the influence, driving with excessive alcohol content and reckless driving. The release said the charges are accusations and a defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty.
