Milwaukee Admirals rally to beat Colorado Eagles 2-1 as Joakim Kemell scores in overtime

Tristen Nielsen put Colorado ahead early, and the Eagles carried the lead through two periods. Brady Martin tied it on a power play just after the third began, sending the game to overtime.

The Milwaukee Admirals rallied from a one-goal deficit entering the third period and beat the Colorado Eagles 2-1 in overtime Saturday at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. Colorado’s early power-play lead lasted through two periods before the Admirals answered on a power play of their own and won on Joakim Kemell’s overtime goal.

Tristen Nielsen scored on the power play at 2:59 of the first period, after Milwaukee’s Brady Martin was called for hooking. Colorado took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. The Eagles put 14 shots on goal in the period, but Matt Murray did not allow another goal. Murray finished with 26 saves on 27 shots.

The lead survived a scoreless second period, though another penalty gave Milwaukee an opening before the break. Colorado’s Alex Gagne was called for holding near the end of the period, leaving the Admirals on the power play when the third began. Martin scored at 0:27 of the third to tie it 1-1, answering Nielsen’s power-play goal with one for Milwaukee.

Colorado had a power play of its own later in the third after Hunter Skinner was called for slashing, but neither team scored again in regulation. Kemell scored at 2:30 of overtime, with Tanner Molendyk assisting, to give the Admirals their first lead and end the game. Colorado goaltender Nikita Novoselov made 20 saves on 22 shots, and the Eagles finished with only Nielsen’s early goal.
