Greeley plans Linn Grove cleanup to remove damaged decorations
The work is scheduled for Oct. 19-30. The city urges families to check its rules first; solar lights, glass containers and similar items are not allowed on graves or in columbarium areas and may be removed.
The City of Greeley plans an Oct. 19-30 cleanup at Linn Grove Cemetery, where workers will remove old or damaged decorations and other items that make maintenance difficult.
The cemetery is cleaned three times a year, in March, June and October. The cleanup helps keep it safe and presentable for people visiting to remember loved ones, the city said.
The city advises families and visitors to review the cemetery’s decoration rules before the cleanup begins. Following the rules makes personal items less likely to be removed, and the rules help workers maintain safe and attractive grounds for visitors, the city said. Solar lights, glass containers and similar items are not allowed on graves or in columbarium areas and may be removed. Fresh or artificial flowers may be placed in the appropriate type of vase, and some plants are allowed in certain cemetery areas under cemetery rules.
Fake flower sprays and wreaths are usually allowed near Memorial Day and from Thanksgiving through March 1, provided cemetery rules are followed. Additional rules apply in Babyland, Soldier’s Field and the columbarium. The City of Greeley provides the complete planting and decoration rules on its website.
