Driver kills man riding bike in Greeley, preliminary police account says
The 53-year-old man was taken to a hospital after first responders attempted lifesaving measures. Police say no charges are pending, and the investigation remains ongoing.
A preliminary investigation found that a driver struck and killed a 53-year-old man riding a bicycle at 11th Avenue and 4th Street in Greeley on Monday night, Greeley police said.
Greeley police officers responded at about 7:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, to a crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle at the intersection. Police said their preliminary investigation found the man was riding east on 4th Street without operational headlights or tail lamps. The investigation also found he did not stop at a posted stop sign and proceeded across the street, where the 25-year-old driver of a northbound white Ford Explorer struck him.
First responders attempted life-saving measures before the man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries. Police said the Weld County Coroner’s Office will release his name pending next-of-kin notification. No charges are pending against the driver.
On-call traffic investigators responded to investigate the crash, reconstructed the scene and obtained video evidence of the collision. Based on physical evidence and video footage, Greeley police investigators determined the bicyclist was at fault for the collision. The investigation remains ongoing, Greeley police said. Police asked anyone with information about the crash to contact Officer Ed Kubala at [email protected].
