Fort Collins residents can take part in regular City Council meetings in person, online or by phone, and can send written comments to Council.
Here's when and where meetings are held, where to find agendas and meeting records, and how to speak, send comments or participate remotely.
When and where are City Council meetings held?
Fort Collins City Council holds regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m. They are held in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 300 Laporte Ave.
Work sessions are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m. in the CIC Room at City Hall, 300 Laporte Ave.
Where can I find City Council meeting agendas and records?
Fort Collins’ Agendas/Minutes directory has columns for meeting dates, agendas, agenda packets, action agendas, minutes, videos and meeting details. City Council agendas are posted by the end of business on the Thursday before each meeting.
The City Clerk’s Office prepares and updates a Council Agenda Planning Calendar intended to provide information about upcoming meetings and agenda items. It includes all known items scheduled for specific dates in the next six months at work sessions and regular meetings.
How do I sign up to speak or send Council a written comment?
You must sign up in advance to speak during general public comment or discussion of a specific agenda item. The sign-up form opens when agenda materials are posted for the next regular City Council meeting and closes at 5:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
You can email written comments to City Council at [email protected]. If your comment is about a specific agenda item, identify it in the email subject line.
Email Public Presentation Materials associated with Public Comment to [email protected] by 4 p.m. on regular meeting dates or two hours before a special or adjourned meeting. Presentations are allowed only in PDF format.
Can I participate in a City Council meeting remotely?
Yes. You can participate in regular City Council meetings in person at City Hall, online via Zoom or by phone.
Work sessions are hybrid, but the public cannot participate in them.
What rules apply during public comment?
If you comment on a particular agenda item during general public comment, you may not speak again during discussion of that item. Comments during discussion of a specific agenda item must pertain to the item under consideration.
Public comment is not a question-and-answer session. Comments should be addressed to the Council rather than individuals. The guidelines ask speakers and audience members to treat everyone with respect and dignity, maintain a welcoming environment and avoid distracting actions.
The guidelines identify these actions to avoid:
- Cheering, booing or applause
- Signs larger than 11-by-17 inches or held in a way that blocks another person’s view
- Audio or video recording that is distracting or obstructive
- Phone or mobile-device noise, including ringtones, notifications, alarms or conversations
