A scooter rider was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision with a deer, Fort Collins police said.
At approximately 10:06 p.m. Oct. 11, Fort Collins police were notified of a collision between a deer and a person riding a lower power scooter who had serious injuries. The collision was reported to have occurred in the 2000 block of Centre Avenue. Officers arrived and found the scooter rider was an adult male.
The Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded to take over the investigation because of the severity of the rider’s injuries. Investigators found roadway and scooter evidence confirming that the scooter collided with a deer, Fort Collins police said. The area was searched by drone to try to find the deer and check for injuries, but no injured deer was found. “This is an incredibly tragic case, and our thoughts are with the rider and his friends and family during this difficult time,” said Sergeant Chris Bland, who oversees the CRASH Team.
