Abbotsford Canucks beat Colorado Eagles 4-3 as Braeden Cootes scores go-ahead power-play goal

Kole Lind scored twice after Jake Wise opened the scoring, and Colorado drew even in the second and third periods. A faceoff violation put the Eagles shorthanded before the deciding goal.

The Abbotsford Canucks scored on their only power play to break a third-period tie and beat the Colorado Eagles 4-3 on Saturday at Blue Federal Credit Union Arena in Loveland. Colorado struck first, but the teams entered the third period tied after answering each other’s goals through the first two.

Jake Wise put the Eagles ahead 1-0 at 1:40 of the first period. Kole Lind answered for Abbotsford, then scored again in the second to turn that deficit into a 2-1 Canucks lead. Lind finished with two goals and an assist. Sean Behrens tied it 2-2 before the second intermission. Nikita Tolopilo made 32 saves on 35 shots for Abbotsford.

The exchange continued in the third. Ty Mueller put Abbotsford ahead 3-2, but Alex Gagne brought Colorado level at 3-3 at 10:39. The Eagles had answered each of the Canucks’ leads since Lind’s second goal without reclaiming the lead themselves. Ilya Nabokov made 27 saves on 31 shots for Colorado.

The last tie ended after Colorado’s Tristen Nielsen took a two-minute penalty for a faceoff violation, batting the puck with his hand. Cootes scored on the ensuing power play at 14:50 of the third period, with Mueller and Lind assisting, to put Abbotsford ahead 4-3. Colorado had three power plays without a goal, and neither team scored again.
