Greeley police preliminarily say driver turned in front of 19-year-old motorcycle rider who died
The crash remains under investigation, and police say potential charges depend on its outcome. Investigators are seeking two possible witnesses, including a white sedan driver whose car may have recorded footage before the collision.
Greeley police said a preliminary investigation found that a 52-year-old woman driving a Dodge Charger attempted to turn south in front of a 19-year-old woman riding a motorcycle at 59th Avenue and West 10th Street Friday morning. The motorcycle rider died.
Officers responded at about 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, to the crash at the intersection. Police said the driver turned in front of the motorcycle, and the rider hit the Charger's rear right panel. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driving the Charger was uninjured.
The Weld County Coroner’s Office will release the motorcyclist’s name pending notification of next of kin, police said. The Greeley Police Department Traffic Unit is actively investigating the crash. Potential charges are pending the final investigation outcome, police said.
Greeley police are seeking the drivers of an older-model, dark GMC truck and a white sedan who may have witnessed the crash and could have information. Traffic investigators believe the white sedan has an on-board camera that likely captured footage before the collision and could provide critical insight into the investigation.
