Teen driver turns into motorcyclist's path in fatal Loveland crash, police say

Loveland police say a 17-year-old Loveland driver turned left into the path of an 18-year-old Fort Collins man riding a motorcycle at W. 29th Street and N. Taft Avenue. The man died after the crash.
An 18-year-old Fort Collins man rode a red-and-white 2012 Yamaha motorcycle north on N. Taft Avenue toward W. 29th Street, the Loveland Police Department says. A 17-year-old Loveland girl drove a white 2022 Toyota RAV4 south on N. Taft Avenue in the designated turning lane. She turned left onto eastbound W. 29th Street and entered the motorcycle’s path as she began the turn. The man riding the motorcycle collided with the RAV4 and was ejected.
The fatal traffic crash happened just before 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at W. 29th Street and N. Taft Avenue, police say. Thompson Valley EMS arrived shortly before Loveland police officers and immediately began lifesaving measures on the motorcyclist, who remained unresponsive.
The department’s CRASH Team responded because of the crash’s severity and assumed the investigation, the department says. Preliminary findings indicate the motorcyclist’s speed contributed to the crash. Investigators do not currently consider drugs or alcohol contributing factors. The department’s understanding of the incident may change as additional evidence is collected, analyzed and reviewed.
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release the motorcyclist’s identity, the Loveland Police Department says. The department asks anyone with additional information about the crash to call its non-emergency number at (970) 667-2151.
