Loveland council updates water rules, approves 40-year water contract

The agreement gives the city top priority for certain rights in Green Ridge Glade Reservoir; the current contract expires Oct. 31. The city says the updated rules clarify prohibited activities and what happens when they’re violated.

Loveland City Council approved changes to its source water protection rules and a 40-year contract giving the city top priority for certain water rights in Green Ridge Glade Reservoir.

The city says the updated rules are clearer about what is not allowed and outline what happens when the rules are not followed. The changes align with best practices, the City of Loveland said.

The current 25-year contract expires Oct. 31.

Council approved the first reading of the city’s 2027 budget, rate and fees. The final vote will take place Oct. 20.

Council gave first approval to updates to floodplain building codes and regulations. The changes would add new federal requirements and replace the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Flood Insurance Maps and Flood Insurance Study from 2006 with newer versions.

Council set a Nov. 17 public hearing to decide whether the proposed Jayhawker Ponds Addition can be annexed into the city. The 32.6-acre area is at 970 W. 1st St. Council also gave first approval to annex 5.6 acres known as the Hein and Liu Addition and to apply I-Developing Industrial zoning to the property. Items receiving first approval will return for a second and final vote at a future meeting.
