Greeley police take two into custody after pursuit
Officers disengaged to minimize public danger, then used a Real Time Information Center drone to track the vehicle. Police say the occupants fled on foot after it stopped and were taken to Weld County Jail.
Greeley police took driver Ethan Liess, 21, and passenger Cyrillo Espinoza, 20, into custody after Liess fled an attempted traffic stop at about 2:50 p.m. Sept. 24, police said.
Pursuing officers disengaged to minimize danger to the public and used a Real Time Information Center drone to track the vehicle, Greeley police said. The vehicle stopped in the 1400 block alleyway between 8th and 9th Street, after which Liess and Espinoza fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood, police said. The release’s headline says the vehicle crashed after eluding officers, but its account does not describe a crash.
Police said the two were taken to the Weld County Jail. Liess was booked on multiple charges, including vehicular eluding, reckless endangerment and driving with a suspended license, police said. Espinoza was booked on charges including obstructing a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance, and police said he had multiple previous warrants.
The Greeley Police Department said the case is an ongoing investigation and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
