Fire Prevention Week focused on safe charging
Mayor Emily Francis proclaimed October 4 – 10, 2026, as Fire Prevention Week on October 6, 2026; the 2026 theme promoted safe device charging. The proclamation notes that lithium-ion batteries are used and charged in most homes and businesses, and that Poudre Fire Authority regularly responds to battery fires, which burn hot, are extremely difficult to extinguish and endanger the community and firefighters. It advises using certified products and manufacturer-approved charging practices, and says not to put lithium-ion batteries in the trash or curbside recycling; Timberline Recycling Center and the Larimer County Landfill are identified as safe recycling locations.
