Town, fire district divide wildfire enforcement

From the Johnstown Town Council meeting of

The agreement assigns Front Range Fire Rescue Fire Protection District enforcement of applicable fire-code elements in the area where its jurisdiction overlaps Johnstown’s, generally including Chapter 3 on wildfire hazard identification and Chapter 5 on site and area requirements. Johnstown is assigned applicable building-code enforcement there, generally including Chapter 4 on structure hardening; each party may establish a property-owner self-compliance program, and they must refer to one another violations they know about that fall under the other’s code responsibilities. Both parties have adopted the 2025 Wildfire Resiliency Code, and the agreement sets July 1, 2026, as the date the code becomes enforceable in each jurisdiction. The parties must reasonably coordinate enforcement on properties requiring enforcement of both fire-code and building-code elements. The agreement takes effect when both parties sign; the attached copy has blank signature and date lines.

Adopted with the consent agenda (carried).
