Weld County approves oil and gas division move under Planning Services
Approved at a Sept. 30 meeting, the administrative reorganization would eliminate the director post and change the unit’s management structure within county government.
Weld County commissioners approved moving the Oil and Gas Division under the Department of Planning Services on Sept. 30 after taking up a proposed dissolution of the Department of Oil and Gas Energy.
The reorganization would eliminate the director of Oil and Gas Energy position, Jill Scott of Human Resources and Administration said. Scott said the action was within the board’s authority and complied with Weld County Code. The chair said the team would remain the same despite a change in management, while a commissioner said its work would continue under Planning Services.
Commissioner Kevin Ross said permitting for new pad sites and other oil and gas operations would not change when the division moved under Planning Services. Ross said he strongly supported the reorganization. The county remained committed to the industry and to “being intentional as well as responsible with oil and gas development in this county,” a commissioner said.
