Oscar Lopez Mendoza charged with DUI after hitting deputy's patrol car, Greeley police say
Police say the driver’s license had been revoked after a prior DUI conviction. The crash remains under investigation; anyone with information about it is asked to contact Officer Josh Franklin.
Greeley police say 26-year-old Oscar Lopez Mendoza was booked into the Weld County Jail on charges including DUI. Police say he did not stop for a Weld County sheriff’s deputy and hit the deputy’s patrol car near 18th Street and Highway 85 on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Greeley police said an investigation found Lopez Mendoza was driving with a revoked license because of a prior DUI conviction. Police said all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Greeley police said officers responded to a collision near the intersection of 18th Street and Highway 85 at about 11:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. A Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputy saw the driver travel recklessly and make a wide turn across double yellow lines, police said. The deputy stopped and activated emergency lights, but the driver did not stop and hit the front left quarter of the patrol car, according to Greeley police. Despite damage to the patrol car, the deputy maneuvered behind the driver and detained him until Greeley police officers arrived, the department said.
