Special Olympics torch run will pass through Evans Wednesday
The city says the local leg starts at 9 a.m. at 23rd Avenue and 34th Street and ends near Burger King, where the torch will be passed to UNC Police. Spectators should stay clear of the roadway.
The City of Evans says the Evans Police Department will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Colorado Wednesday, Sept. 30. The Evans portion will begin promptly at 9 a.m. at 23rd Avenue and 34th Street.
The City says runners will head east on 34th Street from 23rd Avenue to 17th Avenue, then south on 17th Avenue to 37th Street. They will go east on 37th Street, including a loop through the Evans Community Complex, and continue to the new Evans Police Department at 3737 St. Vrain Street. The route will return to 37th Street, head north on 11th Avenue and cross Highway 34, finishing just north of the highway near Burger King. At the end of the Evans portion, the torch will be passed to the UNC Police Department, which will continue the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The City invites community members, residents and visitors to cheer on runners along the route, including 34th Street, 17th Avenue and 37th Street, near the Evans Community Complex and Police Department, and along 11th Avenue. The City advises spectators to stay on sidewalks or in another safe viewing location, keep clear of the roadway and follow directions from officers and event personnel. The City says the run helps raise awareness and support for Special Olympics Colorado and its athletes.
