WCR 5 lane closures delayed, work expected to finish by mid-October
Crews will work weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Single-lane closures will affect part of the Soaring Heights entrance and exit, but no full road closures are planned and traffic will remain accessible.
The Town of Erie says utility potholing that will bring single-lane closures to Weld County Road 5 is now scheduled to start Friday, Sept. 25. Work is expected to finish by mid-October.
Neilson Underground, a contractor for Segra Fiber, will pothole existing utilities along Weld County Road 5 (WCR 5) from Colliers Parkway north to WCR 10, the Town of Erie said. The latest update says work will begin near the entrance between Erie High School and Soaring Heights PK-8, then continue north. Crews will work weekdays only from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the update says.
The notice says traffic control will consist of single-lane closures on WCR 5 and a portion of the Soaring Heights entrance and exit at the Flora View Drive intersection. No full road closures are planned, and traffic will be accessible at all times. Erie High School traffic at the Colliers Parkway intersection and south entrances is not expected to be affected, the latest update says. Traffic control will be removed and the roadway clear by 3 p.m. each day; drivers should expect brief delays and use caution around crews and equipment.
The latest update says the work was delayed because of issues getting existing utilities located. The notice describes potholing as the first phase of a new fiber line installation. The original notice said the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. schedule was intended to avoid Soaring Heights School drop-off and pickup times.
