Two people remain critical after shooting near I-25, police say

Loveland police say two people remain in critical condition after a shooting investigators believe occurred near the I-25 and Eisenhower Boulevard offramp.

Shortly after midnight Monday, Sept. 21, the Loveland Emergency Communications Center received an iPhone notification about a traffic crash near the I-25 and Eisenhower Boulevard offramp. Loveland officers responded and contacted two subjects, the occupants of the only vehicle at the scene. Both were found to have gunshot wounds during medical evaluation. They were transported for emergency medical care and remain in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Based on evidence obtained so far, investigators believe the shooting itself occurred near the crash location. The Loveland Police Department said its preliminary investigation suggests the shooting may have been a targeted attack, not a random act. The department said it has no information indicating a direct threat to the community. It said the release was based on preliminary information available when drafted and its understanding of the incident may change as additional evidence is collected, analyzed and reviewed.

The Loveland Police Department said it leads the investigation because the crash occurred within Loveland’s jurisdiction. Investigators worked throughout the night and continue following leads and gathering evidence today, the department said. The department asks anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or has information from the moments before midnight along the I-25 corridor between Crossroads Boulevard and Eisenhower Boulevard, particularly in the southbound lanes, to contact its tipline.
