Board Residency Rules Would Change

The ordinance would require people appointed or reappointed to city boards and commissions to live within the Fort Collins Growth Management Area while serving. Members who permanently or indefinitely relocate outside the area would have to resign, while temporary relocations of up to 90 days would be allowed; the residency rules would not apply to the General Employees Retirement Committee, and attendance obligations would remain unchanged. The ordinance would take effect September 25, 2026, and would authorize the City Clerk, in consultation with the City Attorney, to update the Boards and Commissions Manual for related administrative requirements. The proposed change has no financial impact, and the manual includes the Code of Conduct Policy.
