Bike lane appreciation day proclaimed

The proclamation designates Sept. 24, 2026, as Bette Sears Bike Lane Appreciation Day in Fort Collins, recognizing Sears’ 1970 petition with 1,700 names seeking safe routes for children. The proclamation says the city began work on its first bike lane in the 700 block of Olive Street on Sept. 24, 1970, and that the effort resulted in more than 185 miles of dedicated bike lanes, 46 miles of paved pathways and a platinum-level Bicycle Friendly City designation.
